Here I am going to show you how to manually build a static homepage with the X WordPress Theme using the powerful shortcodes that come with the theme and without having to use the page builder. You can see the finished X WordPress Theme static homepage I describe here.

The X WordPress Theme has overtaken the WordPress theme market by storm in recent months. I have now been using the X Theme for about six months. It wasn’t easy for me to jump right in, being a Genesis framework user for some time now. There is a learning curve for everything, but once you get past that I think you will find it easy to use and powerful.

Build your own Genesis child theme for WordPress (Part 1)

You have tried one or several WordPress themes and perhaps you found one you like but have been frustrated by its limited customization. You discovered you could change customize colors here and there, the background, the header, the number of columns in the homepage, and a few more things but that’s about it. You are ready to either hire a web designer or design your own theme. Here I am going to show you how to tinker around and build your own Genesis child theme using the Genesis Framework.

Of course, you could design your own WordPress theme from scratch just as developers do. As a beginner this is not a good idea because you will have to spend a lot of time learning how to do this. A much easier way for a beginner is to get a WordPress framework such as Genesis and use it as a parent theme for your child theme.

What is WordPress and what can you do with it?

WordPress is a free and open source website software tool that has been around for about ten years. It was originally developed as a blogging tool, but through the years it has evolved. Now it is a sophisticated site construction software and content management system (CMS) for websites.

It is built on two also open source technologies: PHP, a scripting language, and MySQL, a database primarily used over the Web.
