Elementor page builder landing page with Genesis Framework

Here I will show you how to use the free Elementor page builder plugin to build a landing page in a Genesis child theme. Elementor is an advanced front-end drag and drop page builder for WordPress. It has a totally free version which I am using here. If you have Elementor Pro installed you will obviously have more options.

I previously wrote an article “Divi Builder together with the WordPress Genesis Framework,” where I showed how to use the Divi Builder plugin to make a static homepage in Genesis.  I believe Elementor is a much easier to use page builder than Divi.

In this example, you will create a landing page for a real estate agent website using the Elementor page builder.  You can find a link to the finished page at the bottom of this article.Continue reading  >> about Elementor page builder landing page with Genesis Framework

Divi Builder together with the WordPress Genesis Framework

Here I will show you how you can use the Divi Builder plugin with the WordPress Genesis Framework to easily build full-width homepages for your website.

The Genesis Framework, by StudioPress is one of the most stable and popular theme frameworks available on which developers build their themes, usually called “child” themes.  You don’t have to be a developer to use Genesis.  There are dozens of ready to use child themes available sold by StudioPress and others.  The Divi Builder is a drag & drop page builder plugin sold by Elegant Themes which can be used in just about any theme.  It helps people that have no coding experience build great pages just by clicking and dragging stuff around.

Static homepage for the X WordPress Theme

Here I am going to show you how to manually build a static homepage with the X WordPress Theme using the powerful shortcodes that come with the theme and without having to use the page builder.  You can see the finished X WordPress Theme static homepage I describe here.

The X WordPress Theme has overtaken the WordPress theme market by storm in recent months.  I have now been using the X Theme for about six months.  It wasn’t easy for me to jump right in, being a Genesis framework user for some time now.  There is a learning curve for everything, but once you get past that I think you will find it easy to use and powerful.

Build your own Genesis child theme for WordPress (Part 2)

Here I am going to show you how to build a static homepage for your own Genesis child theme.  In Part 1 of this series I showed you how to start building your own Genesis child theme for the Genesis Framework. To do this, you could start from scratch and build your child theme from the bottom up, but it is a lot easier to start from a basic child theme and then modify it as you want. The folks at StudioPress have a Genesis Sample Child Theme, so if you have Genesis you can download that child theme for your own use. I used this child theme to start building my very own child theme.

What is a static homepage or static front page? You don’t have to use Genesis to build a static homepage for your WordPress site.  WordPress itself has the capability of creating what it calls a “static front page.”  So what is a static homepage or front page?  By default, WordPress has what is called a blog look.  It may have one or two sidebars, it may have fancy menus and complicated footers, but the main content of the homepage will be the latest “posts” presented in a reverse chronological order (latest post first).

Build your own Genesis child theme for WordPress (Part 1)

You have tried one or several WordPress themes and perhaps you found one you like but have been frustrated by its limited customization.  You discovered you could change customize colors here and there, the background, the header, the number of columns in the homepage, and a few more things but that’s about it.  You are ready to either hire a web designer or design your own theme.  Here I am going to show you how to tinker around and build your own Genesis child theme using the Genesis Framework.

Of course, you could design your own WordPress theme from scratch just as developers do.  As a beginner this is not a good idea because you will have to spend a lot of time learning how to do this.  A much easier way for a beginner is to get a WordPress framework such as Genesis and use it as a parent theme for your child theme.

WordPress test server using an old computer

If you’re going to do any serious work with WordPress, you don’t want to use your live website to try new things.  You will need to have a WordPress installation somewhere that you can use as a testing site.

There you will be able to test different themes, plugins, landing pages, and anything else you want to test before you put it in your live site(s). Here I am going to show you how to set up a test server using an old computer or laptop.
